About

Shamballa is a Multiple Occupancy which started as a limited liability company in 1973. We are located on 632 acres of subtropical land near Bellingen on the NSW Mid North Coast.
The word Shamballa (various spellings) comes from the Sanskrit word for a mythical Himalayan spiritual kingdom. Whilst founded with some 1970’s idealism we have over time become more down to earth and pragmatic in our approach to community living. We still retain a strong sense of community and mutual respect for each other and our wonderful environment.
Shamballa is now a co-operative society formed to provide a rural setting for the benefit of its members. We currently have 26 members aged from mid 20’s to some original members now in their 70’s living in 17 houses. All residents pay an annual levy which supports the communities needs such as roadworks and shared equipment. We have seven directors who meet regularly to discuss community matters and an annual general meeting cum dinner party to elect office bearers and discuss matters that require a wider input from all members.
